What Works is an initiative of KHDA (Knowledge & Human Development Authority) that brings together over 500 teachers and principals to share what is working in their classrooms.
The event aims to find out 'what works' in order for us to make the best of our youth's innovative and creative minds and so brings together our UAE's most passionate teachers to see what they think works in a classroom.
"Across Dubai’s schools, children enrolled in early years education make up nearly 30% of the student population. Research has shown that students who have high quality early years schooling are more likely to graduate from university, be employed, earn higher salaries and make a more positive contribution to society. What Works Early Years will bring together Dubai’s most passionate, playful teachers to share what they do best to inspire young minds."
This year's What Works was themed around MAKERS – being creative and innovative, not using traditional methods for teaching but involving the student in the learning journey. After all, at the end of the day, it's all about the students.
And in Winchester, we are all about involving our students in the teaching process, as to ensure they are able to grasp the best of the knowledge that is being provided to them.
So, two of our very talented artists, Innah Usero & Ruth Ann-Paul from Sixth Form, participated in the event to bring a 'making' feel to the event. Each student was given 1.5mx1.5m white canvas to create something that looks independent but when put together portrays a united image or message. And our two artists, as always, made us proud by creating an absolute masterpiece.
